POWERBUILDING 365

SIX BLOCKS.
ONE SYSTEM.
365 DAYS.
The complete year-round strength and physique methodology. Not a program. A methodology. Written by a coach with 40+ years in the trenches.
Most Lifters Run the Wrong Block at the Wrong Time
Free content online is either too vague to execute or too rigid to survive a real training year. The blogs teach one phase and leave the other eleven months to chance. The influencer programs sell aggressive short-cycle cuts and call them systems. The old textbooks understand periodization but read like engineering manuals nobody finishes.
Serious lifters need something that connects all of it. What to run in the off-season. When to shift phases. How to eat and train through a meet peak or a physique show. What comes after. When to deload and why. The whole year, as one continuous system.
The Work Shows Up on the Scale, the Bar, and the Stage
Every lifter below ran a version of the same system laid out in the book.
Off-season to OCB stage. Structured build, retention-focused cut, show day.
March to May. Strength held, composition changed, no drama.
Same guy on the cover. Same system in the pages.
60 pounds off, then a 367.8 lb squat and NJ state record. Full cycle from cut to force development.
Bench at the meet. Structured strength peak on top of a real off-season.
Heavy pull under control. Force Development Mesocycle in execution.
The Complete System
The same system Chris uses with his private coaching clients. Written down, session by session, so a serious lifter can execute the same annual cycle at home.
- The Full MethodologyEvery block explained. Every framework laid out. The reasoning behind each decision.
- Session by SessionMonday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday. Every week. Every phase. Exact prescriptions.
- Calibrated Max CalculatorsPlug in one number. See your working weights for the entire block.
- Annual Macrocycle BlueprintNot just individual blocks. The full 365-day sequence, mapped.
- Nutrition FrameworksMacros, TDEE, deficit sizing, and a real food reference. Not stapled to the training as an afterthought.
Also Inside
For aging athletes, women, home gym builds, honest supplement talk, and training through injuries.
- The Aging AthleteNot scaled-down programming for old guys. Written by one, for anyone still training with intent past forty.
- Women's PhysiologyNot male programming with a pink cover. A chapter that covers what actually differs and what doesn't.
- DIY Gym EquipmentReal builds for real garages. Not Instagram inspiration you can't finish on a weekend.
- Supplement ReferenceFive that earn their place. The rest gets called out by name in the hall of shame.
- Training Around InjuriesNot "take a week off." A framework for training through what most books tell you to sit out.
Six Training Blocks. One Cycle.
Every block has a specific purpose, a defined structure, and a clear entry and exit point.
STRENGTH BLOCK
Add real force to your main lifts. Phase-by-phase progression, RPE-governed top sets, and a Calibrated Max system that keeps the working weights honest.
CYCLIC MASSOCYCLE
Build real mass without a bloat cycle you have to unwind for six months. Loading windows, maintenance deloads, and weekly drift monitoring keep the surplus producing muscle.
HYPERTROPHY BLOCK
Grow the muscle everything else in the system either builds on or protects. Three six-week waves, exercise variation between them, extended set techniques introduced at the right time.
FAT LOSS BLOCK
Cut fat while keeping the muscle you already built. Rate-based deficit sizing, scheduled diet breaks, and strength maintenance as the actual success metric.
RECOMP BLOCK
Get leaner and stronger in the same fifteen weeks. Heavy neural work and hypertrophy volume in the same week, not sequenced apart. Precision or nothing.
DELOAD MONTH
Recover so the next twelve months actually work. Mandatory. Not optional. Not conditional on how you feel in week two.
Three Pathways Through the System
POWERLIFTING PEAK
For the lifter targeting a meet. Strength focus with structured off-season mass work between meets.
- Off-season: Cyclic Massocycle
- Meet prep: Strength Block
- Reset: Deload Month
PHYSIQUE SHOW PREP
For the competitor bringing a package to a stage. Structured off-season, then a controlled retention-focused cut.
- Off-season: Hypertrophy Block
- Show prep: Fat Loss Block
- Post-show: Deload Month
LONG-TERM DEVELOPMENT
For the lifter chasing better strength and physique without a competition on the calendar.
- Mass phase: Cyclic Massocycle
- Refinement: Recomp Block
- Reset: Deload Month
Start the Year
Six blocks. One system. 365 days of structured training built to make you stronger, leaner, and better prepared for whatever's on the calendar.
A long-term training system built around strength, muscle, and structure.
Built on a foundation of real-world coaching, Chris Marzarella applies evidence-based training principles to strength and physique development. A USAPL Club Coach, ACSM Certified Personal Trainer, and two-time Teacher of the Year nominee with a background in special education, Chris blends practical experience with structured methodology. He is an NPC Classic Physique competitor, OCB show promoter and judge, as well as the founder of Lift Lab Performance, an exclusive, invitation-only online practice based in Brick, New Jersey.
Chris maintains a deliberately capped roster to deliver focused, 16-to-24-week prep for competitive physique athletes, powerlifters, and film/television roles. He built POWERBUILDING 365 as the direct result of that coaching methodology.
Above all, Chris is a husband, father, and grandfather to a very cute little girl who teases him constantly, a setup he wouldn't trade for anything. He is grounded by family and still in the gym every day doing the work.
